Bond Update from the Superintendent

Phase I is coming to a close and Phase II will begin soon

As we are wrapping up Phase 1 of our 2020 Bond program, it seems like a perfect time for an update on how our projects are going and our future plans!  Our tennis and pickleball courts are complete, including lighting and fencing.  We cannot wait to begin to have it warm enough for community use.  Stay tuned for lessons and recreation programming for adult and youth tennis/pickleball!  Our concession stand and restrooms by the baseball/softball fields are nearing completion, with a final inspections complete.  The new sidewalks and access to those areas are also complete, just waiting for the warm weather, and a planned spring sports weekend event to show it off!  The work at Weymouth Early Childhood Center is also finished, and there has been healthy progress on our Agricultural Learning Center.  If you drive around Charlotte High School you can see the significant work that has been completed, including underground plumbing and electrical, water and sanitary work, with the building nearly enclosed and interior construction being done.

Our Phase 2 will begin in the Spring/Summer of 2022, and you will see very large and visible projects underway.  For Galewood Early Elementary, 7 additional classrooms will be added, improvements to the HVAC system, classroom and parking lot upgrades, classroom and media center furniture and a secure entry for safety.  Washington Elementary will have 5 added classrooms, new classroom and media center furniture, and will also have parking lot, classroom, and HVAC upgrades.  Also included in Phase 2 is our work at Charlotte High School, with upgraded media center and classroom furniture, HVAC and technological improvements, and added security features.  We will also be replacing all of the windows in the Dome, and adding a much-needed auxiliary gym and activity room.  Lastly, included in the second of the three phases is new classroom and media center furniture at Parkview Elementary.

I would like to thank the Charlotte voters for supporting the 2020 Bond program, allowing us to improve our district both for our students and the community. I will continue to update you on the progress and would welcome you to visit our outdoor spaces to see the enhancements that have been so needed in our area.  You can also visit our website for more information and ongoing updates.  It is wonderful to see the work being done, and the projects completed, bringing more Oriole Pride to our area!

Go Orioles!  Oriole Pride!
