Charlotte Students Participate in Special Olympics Swim Meet

CHS swimmers took risks, tried new events and did it all with a positive outlook

On Friday, April 14th, some students at Charlotte High School had an opportunity to participate in the Special Olympics Swim Meet in Holt, Michigan. They were part of the Charlotte Dolphins Special Olympics Swim Team. The team has been practicing every week since January in preparation for this meet.

The Special Olympics motto is “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.” Many of the athletes had never participated on the swim team before and were a little nervous, but they did a great job following that motto. They took risks, tried new events and did it all with a positive outlook. It was such a great experience for the students to demonstrate how to support each other and socialize in a safe environment.

Five of these athletes will be continuing to practice as they also will be competing at the Michigan Special Olympics State Games held at Central Michigan University May 31-June 2 nd . Congratulations swimmers!

Some LINKS and other students from Charlotte High volunteered their time to come watch the athletes, cheer and support them.  They were very positive, encouraging and really an impressive example of student leaders.
