Students Participate in Special Olympics Track and Field

On Thursday, May 11 th , Charlotte Schools had over 85 students attend Special Olympics Track and Field in Lansing, MI. We had Athletes and Unified Partners competing in sporting events from our youngest preschool students through our high school students.

The athletes were competing and trying their best in their individual events, but the amount of cheering and support for all the athletes was what the day was really about. Some students were excited to be the center of attention while others were nervous, but everyone had someone there supporting and encouraging them. They had peer partners, buddies,
family members, community members, and friends all cheering them on. It was amazing to watch all the interactions between the students and seeing them reach out and forge friendships with athletes from other schools too!

Finally, we also had student volunteers helping run the Bocce Ball Competition again this year. These students took on that leadership position to make sure all events could happen and they showed compassion and flexibility throughout the day.

Thank you to all of the students and adults who helped make this such a successful and positive experience for others. It was a great day to be an ORIOLE!
